Schwabacher Build

The duly elected residents council at Schwabacher house has been working hard for months getting ready to build thier garden. Located near the heart of the Ballard neighborhood, Schwabacher House has 44 apartments serving low income Seniors. The council has been working with the Just Garden Project, the P-patch program and Seattle Housing Authority to be sure these gardens get built by the end of the year.

Read this Report on the Days’ Events

November 27th, 12 pm – 4 pm
Sod Removal. We will be removing sod (grass) from the parking strip to make room for the bed and the 1/4 minus crushed concrete that will be placed around the raised beds to insure their handicap accessibility.

November 30th, 10 am – 4 pm
Garden Build. We will be placing raised beds and filling them with soil, laying edging, and filling around the beds with crushed concrete.

Build a raised bed (or all four) in your home.
We are building four raised with 2″x6″ cedar planks. Beds will be 30″ tall. Two will be 10′ x 3′ and two will be 10′ x 20″. The following PDF is a rough garden build instruction guide: Building a Raised Bed

This garden has been funded by the 2008 P-patch Levy. Donations will help with continuing education and support the Just Garden’s work in 2013. Donate.


Potluck celebration to follow the garden build. We hope to be done with the garden build by 2 pm. From there will dine together with Schwabacher residents. Please bring a potluck dish.
